Port-Saint-Père is home to several mills dating from the 17th to the 19th century as well as beautiful castles such as Grandville Castle and its charming Gothic chapel, Briord Castle and Château de la Rivière. The Acheneau is the name of this river in the Pays de Retz, which was once the scene of particularly intense freight transport. Today, life is quieter, and you can walk peacefully in the port of La Morinière and meet some fishermen who have come to tease the fish. Fishing licence in your pocket? Walks and hikes in Port-Saint-Père
Stroll at your own pace on foot or by bike, or take a sporty hike, whatever your way of discovering Port-Saint-Père, you will enjoy exploring the banks of the Acheneau river and the landscapes of the countryside and vineyards of this charming commune. You will have the possibility to rent a kayak, a paddle or even an electric boat to cross the river with family or friends. Take the Red Sands circuit (7 km) for a short hike along the marshes and discover the port of Hamoneau. Even shorter, the Safari and Tenu circuit (5 km) will offer you a pleasant stroll around the Planète Sauvage animal park. Finally, for an invigorating walk, choose the Tour du Lac de Grand Lieu trail. It is the largest natural lake on the French plain in winter (6300 hectares), in summer its surface area is reduced by more than half! A total of more than 73 kilometres of hiking will plunge you into the heart of a rich biodiversity, including many bird species to observe and admire.
Planète Sauvage and educational farms in Port-Saint-Père
